چکیده

Methods for the separation of adrenaline, noradrenaline, hydroxytyramine, and dihydroxyphenylalanine (dopa) by employing starch columns (2, 3), paper chromatography (4-7), or countercurrent extraction (8) have limited usage either because of the length of time required for the fractionation or because of the small amounts of material that can be separated. A procedure is described below in which the weak cation exchange resin Amberlite IRC-50 is used to effect the separation of adrenaline, noradrenaline, hydroxytyramine, and dopa in less time than that required by previous methods and in amounts which vary from 0.02 to 1.0 mg.

The Estimation of Catecholamines in Urine by a Chemical Method

The estimation of urinary catecholamines has assumed clinical significance mainly because of its value in the diagnosis of phaeochromocytoma (Engel and Euler, 1950; Euler, 1951). Since biological methods have obvious limitations for routine work, various chemical methods have been developed (Lund, 1950; Pekkarinen and Pitkanen, 1955; Euler and Floding, 1955a, b). They are based on the same prin...

Pathway of noradrenaline formation from DOPA.

Three compounds have each been postulated as the possible immediate precursor of noradrenaline (1) : p-hydroxyphenylethanolamine, dihydroxyphenylserine, and hydroxytyramine. Erspamer (2) found p-hydroxyphenylethanolamine in the salivary gland of the octopus; however, the compound has not been reported to be present in mammalian tissues, nor has it been shown that it can be converted to noradren...

Immunoglobulin A Preparation from Human Pooled Plasma Using Plasma Fractionation and Ion Exchange Chromatography

Background: In this study we have prepared the IgA solution from normal human plasma using plasma fractionation and ion exchange chromatography. Materials and Methods: Using fractionation of plasma with cold ethanol (starting with 8% ethanol), fraction III was prepared as a suitable source for IgA preparation. Then it was treated with caprylic acid for separation of impurities. For enrichm...
